Voters in the Bethlehem Central School District are heading into the rain today to vote on a school budget that would increase the tax levy by 3.99 percent.
Partway through the day turnout was strong and nearly at pace with the turnout from the 2006 budget revote. As of 2 p.m. today, 1,953 people had cast votes.
“It’s been very strong right out of the gates,” said district Business and Financial Officer Judi Kehoe.
The number could be influenced by the fact BC’s budget is one of a handful in the state to challenge the new property tax cap. That means at least 60 percent of the votes cast must be in favor of the $88.2 million spending plan for it to pass.
