The Rotterdam Princetown Fire District No. 5 has announced it will hold a special election on Tuesday, Oct. 25, on the proposed bonding for the expansion and renovation of the Pine Grove Fire Station at 144 Dunnsville Road. The Special Election will be held at the firehouse between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.
The fire district covers portions of the Towns of Rotterdam and Princetown in Schenectady County and a portion of the Town of Guilderland in Albany County. All residents of the Fire District who are registered voters and have resided in the district for 30 days prior to Oct. 25 are eligible to vote in the referendum.

The special referendum is on authorizing the issuance of bonds not to exceed the projected $3.5 million construction cost of the proposed addition of a new apparatus bay and renovations to the existing fire station structure. An informational meeting on the proposal on is being held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Pine Grove Fire Station at 7 p.m. and is scheduled to run for two hours.
The fire district is proposing the expansion and renovation of the existing Pine Grove Fire Station to address structural, safety and regulatory issues, and improve facility functionality, according to information from the district.
The building is 40 years old, and isn’t meeting the needs of the firefighters, said Commissioner Herb LeTarte III.
“The current Fire Station no longer accommodates the modern services and equipment used to maintain the health, safety and welfare of the volunteer firefighters who serve our community,” he said.
