The Bethlehem School District’s Farm to You Fest kicked off this week, as the district’s Healthy Kids Committee for the third year running launched into a full week of agricultural awareness and food drives.
A huge part of BC’s celebration is the “Squash Hunger” food drive. Students are asked to donate fresh fruits and vegetables, which are then consolidated every afternoon at McCarroll’s Delmar Marketplace before being donated to the Capital District Community Gardens and Bethlehem Food Pantry for distribution to area soup kitchens.
Last year, the drive resulted in the collection of over 1,000 pounds of fresh food.
Other activities for the week include a recipe contest, with the top winners receiving the opportunity to have their dish cooked for the entire district in the fall. Every recipe will be available on the Bethlehem Healthy Kids website, accessible through BC’s web presence at bcsd.k12.ny.us.
Enties may also be submitted to [email protected] through Friday, Oct. 14.
Kids will also have the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt at the Delmar Saturday Farmers Market.
