Newcomer Dan Lewza (R,C, I) defeated current Town of Milton Supervisor Frank Thompson (R) in the GOP Primary on Tuesday, Sept. 13, by a vote of 1,012 to 671.
“I’m very happy the way things have turned out,” said Lewza. “We had a good committee to see this through. Everyone worked really hard on this campaign.”
Thompson said although he didn’t win he’s satisfied with the campaign he ran.
`We didn’t make it but we ran a clean campaign. I didn’t go after anyone’s grandkids or anything like that, didn’t spread lies and I’m satisfied with that,` said Thompson. `It is what it is.`
Thompson, who held office for eight years, had lost the endorsement of the Saratoga GOP to Lewza.
Lewza said he will do “everything [I] possibly can to do a good job” for the Town of Milton and “will not let them down.”
Simple hard work was the key to his success, said Lewza.
“We just worked hard at it and did everything we could to get the vote out. We had quite a campaign team, everyone worked so hard on this,” said Lewza. “I can’t pinpoint one reason. It was a good team effort and that’s what we need in the Town of Milton and what we’re going to bring.”
Lewza said he was confident going into the Primary.
“I felt pretty good, even going into today, I felt good about how everything was going,” said Lewza. “We felt we had an overwhelming margin we were going to have come out for us.”
Lewza was most recently chief of staff for Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C-Melrose) and previously worked in the state legislature for the Senate Rural Resource Commission developing policy initiatives for rural and agricultural areas of the state and as a policy analyst and communications coordinator for the New York State Assembly.
Among the top priorities Lewza touted throughout his campaign were transparency in town government, creating a balanced economic plan for the area that will generate new jobs, ensuring positions in town are available to all residents equally, maintaining an ethical form of government and communicating with residents.
