There’s a monkey on the loose in Bethlehem.
On Monday evening Aug. 22, Kong, a 6-pound capuchin monkey ran out the back door of his owner’s house on Hunter Road. He was seen only once since then, on Queen Anne Drive in Slingerlands on Tuesday.
`I think he thought he was playing a game,` said Kong’s owner, Ron Wilday. `He was running through the house, playing with some kids and then he ran out of the back door.`
Wilday and his daughter, Marina Bender, have kept Kong as a family pet for more than 21 years.
`He doesn’t want to go to strangers,` said Wilday. `He doesn’t like rain and I hope he seeks shelter so it will be easier to find him.`
Wilday advises anyone who may see Kong to not approach or try to feed the monkey, although he says Kong ` who he says is about the size of a cat – is generally well behaved.
`He wouldn’t hurt you, if you just saw him. He might bite you if he’s cornered,` said Wilday. `But he’s little, he’s not a chimp.`
Bethlehem Animal Control and police have been notified of Kong’s disappearance. Anyone who has seen Kong or has information as to his whereabouts, can call those agencies or Wilday directly at 424-5637 or 265-1317.
