State Police on Wednesday, July 20, were investigating a one car serious personal injury accident that occurred the day before on Tuesday, July 19, around 5:11 p.m. in the Town of Schaghticoke.
According to police reports, Zachary Shufelt, 18, of Mechanicville, lost control of a 2000 Toyota Camry while traveling east on Hansen Road, resulting in the vehicle exiting the north shoulder, overturning and coming to a rest on its wheels off the roadway.
Shufelt and a 15-year-old female rear seat passenger from Waterford were transported by ambulance to Albany Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Another rear seat passenger, a 15-year-old male from Mechanicville, was ejected during the collision and flown by Med Flight to Albany Med and is in critical condition, according to police reports.
Police said initial indications are that excessive speed and lack of seat belt use were contributing factors in the cause of the crash and the extent of the injuries.
The investigation by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing.
