When GlobalFoundries employees report to work at the new Fab 8 in Malta each day, lunchtime will be far from the normal cafeteria fare of sandwiches, salads or fast food choices.
All the food will be fresh, wholesome; we won’t be buying any packaged food and will be using lots of locally sourced things from farmers, said Angelo Mazzone, owner of Mazzone Hospitality. `We will do cafeteria service differently.`
Prime Business Dining, an arm of Mazzone Hospitality, won the bid to provide food service to GloFo. Mazzone said his company has been lobbying for three years to secure the contract.
`We’ve been striving for this since we heard GlobalFoundries was coming to town,` said Mazzone.
Now that the bid has been awarded, Mazzone said the company has big plans to remain true to the quality food people are used to.
`It’s kind of our brand and we didn’t want to lower our brand, so we are still staying loyal to the brand and serving great food with great service,` said Mazzone.
GloFo, which is on track to ramp to volume production in early 2013, is expected to bring people from all over the country and the world to Malta and the entire Capital Region. Mazzone said that was very much at the forefront when crafting the culinary options.
`Multicultural people ae coming from all over the world so food would have to be multicultural so the people would be able to enjoy the food they get in their homeland,` said Mazzone.
Dining services will be designed to support the fab’s 24 hour, seven days a week operations, which means breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided for more than 1,400 employees spread across four shifts. Tim Vennard, general manager and chef, will oversee all the dining at Fab 8 including catering, coffee service, vending and in-house.
Prime Business Dining is touting the slogan `Redefining Your Lunchbox.` Some offerings will be hand-rolled sushi, house-roasted deli meats, authentic charcuterie and more. There will be one dining station that will feature Asian `home cooking` and another devoted to Mediterranean fare like quick pizzas. Each food destination will have a `culinarian` to give food expertise, healthy eating options and to handle special requests.
`After conducting a competitive bid process that included large international companies, I am pleased to announce a local New York firm, Prime Business Dining, has won the bid to provide dining services at our new Fab 8 facility,` said Norm Armour, vice president and general manager of Fab 8. `As it’s been said, ‘an army marches on its stomach’ and we’re excited to be expanding our relationship with Angelo Mazzone and his team to serve our growing army of dedicated, talented employees as well as our customers from all over the world.`
This isn’t the first time a partnership has formed between GloFo and Mazzone. Prime Business Dining has run The Foundry since February 2010. It’s a temporary dining facility located in the Fab 8 construction site and provides fresh meals and service to the construction team.
`I really feel GlobalFoundries and that whole project in Malta is the next coming of the Capital District. It’s bringing so many jobs just at GlobalFoundries and then subsidiaries all around, they’re talking about 20,000 or 30,000 people coming into the area,` said Mazzone.
The Foundry will continue operating after the permanent dining facility is built to service ongoing construction projects at the campus.
