The Bethlehem Central School District has selected Realty USA as its realtor in its efforts to sell or lease the district offices on Adams Place in Delmar.
The Board of Education approved the move Wednesday, June 15. An appraisal of the property is ongoing, and it’s expected a for sale sign will be able to go up in about two weeks, said district Chief Business and Financial Officer Judith Kehoe.
We’re on our expected timeline, she said.
A closing process would go beyond most commercial property transactions. The school board would have to approve any sale or lease, and the district’s operations would have to be transferred to a location at the high school.
`It’s a fairly complex operation, so we’re not going to be able to pack up the day we get and offer and move right over to the high school,` Kehoe said.
Selling the district offices was one option proposed by a committee charged with addressing the district’s long-term fiscal challenges as state aid drops.
In 2009, Realty USA estimated the market value of the 5,575-square-foot building as $670,000 the real estate market has been highly volatile in recent years, however.
The district will be closing Clarksville Elementary in the coming school year as a cost-saving measure.
