The Schenectady County Public Health Services issued water boil advisory for around 100 Scotia homes. Areas under the advisory are 201 to 314 Riverside Ave., 102 to 312 Sanders Ave., 105 to 308 South Reynolds Ave, and all homes on Wyman Street and South Ten Broeck Street. Notices were delivered to affected residents on Thursday night.
Everybody that was affected did have (a notice) hand delivered to their home, said Jack Frame, senior public health sanitarian for the county. `The village of Scotia wanted to get the water back on last night.`
On the morning of Thursday, June 9, a water main break occurred and left around 100 residencies without water, said Jack Frame, senior public health sanitarian for the county. The valves were being replaced during routine maintenance. After one valve failed, said Frame, village workers attempted to turn off another valve that also broke.
`When they went to shut the valve down, because of the age of it, it just broke,` said Frame. `A lot of the times they can repair the values under pressure.`
The advisory is expected to be lifted by Sunday, according to Frame. Water samples were taken for testing, but Frame said results take around 19 hours to obtain.
`The water could be fine, but it is just an advisory,` said Frame. `They were able to isolate the problem fairly quickly, so we are assuming that there were no contaminants introduced into the line.“
