The Colonie Democratic Committee announced late Monday evening that it will be endorsing incumbent Supervisor Paula Mahan for re-election in 2011.
We are proud with the effort that Paula and the town board have made with restoring the finances of the Town of Colonie and look forward to working on their re-election efforts this year, said Chairman Richard Jacobson in a press release.
The committee also endorsed the re-election of Deputy Supervisor Nancy Hernandez, Town Board Member Bill Carl and Planning Board Member Paula Rosano for the town board.
Mahan was also endorsed by the Albany County Independence, where Chairman Paul Caputo said it was impressed by the efforts made by Mahan in the town.
Mahan said she was `honored` over the news of the endorsements and that she is ready to continue what she has done in her current term into the next one.
`I look forward to continuing the progress we have made in Colonie,` she said. `It has been a pleasure serving the residents of the town in this capacity and I look forward to another term.`
The official kick-off for the campaign will take place on Thursday, July 7th, at 6:30 p.m., at the committee’s campaign headquarters at 1770 Central Avenue.
In other news, Town Board Member Bob Becker, who was elected in 2008, will not be running for re-election.

Jacobson said Becker did a great service for the Colonie Democrats and served his position on the town board well.
`He was an excellent town board member,` he said. `I don’t think his public service years are over. I’d be happy to see him run again for the town board or some other seat in the future.`
Jacobson also praised Becker for his help in the 2007 campaign, which saw the Democrats take control of the town for the first time.
`We’re grateful for his participation in it,` Jacobson said.“
