Three of the top four seeds advanced safely into the Section II Class A boys lacrosse semifinal round with wins Wednesday.
The lone exception was No. 3 Christian Brothers Academy, which fell to No. 6 Shaker 10-5. The Blue Bison broke the game open with five goals in the third quarter.
Jimmy O’Brien led Shaker with five goals, while Stephen Farrell and Dan Casale each tallied twice. Goaltender Dan Wargo made 12 saves.
Sean Behrmann recorded a hat trick for CBA, and goaltender Connor Wacksman stopped 12 shots.
Shaker will meet No. 2 Niskayuna in Saturday’s semifinal round after the Silver Warriors defeated No. 7 Guilderland 13-5 Wednesday. Niskayuna jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first half and never let Guilderland back in the game.
Lucas Maloney tallied four times, and Brian Schlansker added a goal and four assists for the Silver Warriors. Connor McLachlan scored twice for Guilderland.
The other semifinal features a battle of Saratoga County teams, as No. 4 Ballston Spa edged No. 5 Colonie 7-6 and No. 1 Shenendehowa stomped No. 8 Schenectady 15-6 Wednesday.
Ballston Spa’s Jake Gargiulo tied the game at 6 late in regulation, and John DeGuardi netted the game-winner in overtime to lift the Scotties to their first Sectional semifinal appearance. DeGuardi led a balanced attack with a pair of goals.
Tom Clark scored twice, and goaltender Matt McCarty made 17 saves for Colonie in the loss.
Shen wasted little time in establishing control of its quarterfinal game against Schenectady. The Plainsmen ripped off 11 first-half goals, and they never looked back.
Brett Bernardo and Brian Rogers each had hat tricks, and Mike Jenkins added two goals and four assists for Shen. Tim Cox scored three goals for Schenectady.`
