Denise Sheehan has announced her interest in running for the position of supervisor in the Town of Colonie.
Sheehan, currently the Executive Director of the Climate registry and former Colonie Planning Board director, said she is now currently seeking endorsements from the Republican, Conservative and Independence Parties. She said she is doing this because she wants to show she has a broad interest.
I’m looking hopefully to have broad support, she said.
As a resident of Colonie, Sheehan said she is concerned about the future of the town and feels she has the skill set to lead the town out of its financial woes. She criticized the town’s current deficit reduction plan, saying that the economic climate of the town has worsened.
`What I think we need is better financial control and better financial management,` she said. `Most importantly, there needs to be more openness and accountability to the budget process.`
Sheehan said that the public has not seen an update on the town’s finances in some time and the town is going to be facing some big challenges. The solution, she said, is to create more opportunities by using a more innovative approach to town government.
`We need to modernize town government,` she said. `I believe I have the skills and the capability to do that.“
