Not too many surprises this evening as both the North Colonie Central School District and the South Colonie School District budgets have passed.
The North Colonie $92.9 million budget passed by a 64 percent margin with 1,791 people voting for it and 983 voting against.
Both candidates for spots on the Board of Education ran unopposed as newcomer Siren Chudgar received 1,605 votes and incumbent Ann Foster received 1,973 votes
In South Colonie, the $91.1 million budget was passed with 1,548 voting for it and 1,061 voting against.
In a statement, Superintendent Jon Buhner said the district needs to look forward when planning out the budget with unstable funding such as state aid and a poor economy.
Due to the overall uncertainty related to the economy and state aid, the District will need to take a multi-year approach to budgeting,
Buhner said. `During this recession, and despite losing million of dollars in state aid, we have worked very hard to keep our tax rate as low as possible. Going forward in these difficult economic times, we must continue to be thoughtful about how we use every resource.`
In the BOE races, though, newcomer Daniel Waters lost a close race to Edward Sim, another newcomer. Waters received 1,038 votes and Sim received 1,053 votes. Sim will be replacing Paul Gordon, who served on the Board of Education for 24 years.
Incumbent Neil Johanning ran unopposed but received 1,734 votes.
Check back for more updates later in the week.“
