The North Colonie Central School District is among 51 districts statewide named the Best for Music Education in America, sponsored by the NAMM (North American Music Merchants) Foundation.
These school districts earned this distinction due to their strong comprehensive music education programs in grades kindergarten through twelve, according to a release from the New York State School Music Association.
`Music education has a strong history in New York State and has strong support from its residents,” said Daniel L. Mosher, NYSSMA President in a release. `We are very proud of these school districts for earning this designation. In today’s economic climate where school districts are looking to drastically reduce or eliminate music education, we salute these districts for their quality, comprehensive music education that benefits thousands of students.`
`We are proud to acknowledge these districts and schools and grateful for their commitment to a complete education that includes music,` says Mary Luehrsen, executive director of the NAMM Foundation. `Never has the evidence been more compelling: there is a direct correlation between music education and success in other areas of a student’s life. It is therefore crucial to continue funding music and arts education.`
NYSSMA, the New York State School Music Association, is the largest state affiliate of MENC, the National Association for Music Education. The mission of NYSSMA is to advocate and improve the education in music of all people by promoting appropriate music activities and programs in the schools and communities throughout New York State.
