A 38-year-old Corinth man pleaded guilty to the felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals on Monday, May 9, according to Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy.
Jarrod D. Lent of 17 Warren St. in Corinth was allegedly caring for a 6-month-old Yorkshire Terrier named Aeromay when he discovered the dog had soiled the carpet and violently shoved a large couch against the dog, which was hiding behind it, causing the dog to be crushed, according to information from Murphy’s office, who also said the dog died instantly.
A sentence of one year in jail is expected to be requested at Lent’s July 5 hearing, according to information from Murphy’s office.
According to information from Murphy’s office, Lent was on probation for DWI felony when he committed the crime.
`Animal cruelty is a very serious offense. Justice will be served by the defendant receiving a year in jail at sentencing,` said Murphy in a statement.
