State Police say they believe speed and alcohol are to blame for a Feb. 19 snowmobile crash in which a Malta man died.
According to police reports, troopers were called to the scene of a one snowmobile fatal collision on Hedges Lake in the Town of Jackson in Washington County around 7:18 p.m. on Feb. 19. The cause of the crash appears to be speed and alcohol related, police said, but investigation and toxicology results are still pending.
The deceased operator of the snowmobile is identified as Boris E. Alvarez, 39, of Wineberry Lane in Malta.
According to police reports, the preliminary investigation indicated that Alvarez was operating his 2006 Polaris Snowmobile on Hedges Lake when he struck a metal dock.
Alvarez was pronounced at the scene by the Washington County Coroner and an autopsy was conducted at Glens Falls Hospital, where preliminary results showed Alvarez died from massive internal chest and abdominal injuries, with a final determination pending toxicology results.
