The Bethlehem Town Board will convene on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m., for a public meeting on the Normanside Country Club.
The town has been considering making an attempt to purchase the 280-acre golf course and banquet hall since news broke of the club’s dissolution. The mortgage to the property will be sold in a sealed bid auction, with offers due on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
Supervisor Sam Messina said the purpose of the public meeting will be primarily to gather opinions from the public.
Obviously we’re on a fast tracj in terms of what the board either decides to do or not to do, he said. `We know there’s a lot of public interest out there…we just want to give the public the opportunity to weigh in, pro or con, on this issue.`
A Town Board meeting last week saw a number of residents commenting on the prospect of the town buying the course, with some expressing support and others saying it would be a poor use for public funds.
The Town Board has met twice in closed-door executive sessions to discuss the matter, including one meeting this morning.“
