The New York State Department of Transportation is cautioning of open water and thin ice near the Route 9P bridge construction site, according to an alert sent out by the Saratoga Springs Police Department.
The DOT is saying that construction of the new Route 9P Bridge will continue through the winter, with the contractor erecting steel for the new bridge. This will require that open water is maintained in the work area to keep the lake from freezing to allow barges to move materials between the shore and the bridge structure. With open water in the work area, access to a portion of the area will be prohibited. To see that area, visit the www.nysdot.gov/route9pbridge. It will be outlined in red.
Lake users should comply with instructions on posted signage and respect all barricades, flashing lights and other guidance defining the restricted area, said the police alert. It also said snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle operators should reduce speeds, avoid abrupt maneuvers and watch for other motorized and nonmotorized activity near the work area.
