Colonie Police arrested a man on charges of being involved in a pavement scam yesterday after allegedly receiving a $700 check from an elderly woman and leaving her driveway in disrepair.
Stephen W. Borawski, 32, of Colonie allegedly knocked on the door of a 77 year old woman and convinced her to let him pave her driveway. The woman wrote Borawski a check for $700, which according to police, he cashed within an hour of her writing, preventing her from stopping payment on the check.
Police said Borawski did put down stone and covered it with an unknown liquid that was believed to be pavement sealer, which created more damage to what needed to be repaired.
Another complaint was made about Borawski, according to police, but there are no additional charges reported at this time.
Borawski has been charged with third degree criminal mischief, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned at the Colonie Justice Court and released on a $750 cash bail.
Police said if any other resident feels they were victimized by Boraski then they should contact the Colonie Police Department at 783-2744 or their local police department.`
