Bethlehem Central High School graduate Katie Rowan has been hired by University at Albany women’s lacrosse team coach John Battaglino as an assistant coach for the 2011 season.
Rowan has been a successful player since graduating from Bethlehem in 2005. She starred at Syracuse University for four years and graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer (232 goals and 164 assists). She also played on the 2009 United States team that won the World Cup gold medal. Rowan will play on the 2010-11 national team.
Rowan got her first taste of coaching this past spring at Syracuse as a graduate assistant. Her work with the offense and the goaltenders helped the Orange reach the NCAA Division I Final Four. Rowan also coached on the bronze medal-winning Adirondack Region scholastic women’s lacrosse team at the Empire State Games in July.
Rowan played for Battaglino when he coached at Bethlehem.
