In support of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library will collect food instead of fines for overdue books.
The library is again sponsoring Food for Fines, where each non-perishable, non-expired food item brought in from Saturday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 31, the library will forgive one overdue fine on Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library materials that have been returned. More than one food item may be donated per person; for each donated food item, the overdue fine for one returned library item will be forgiven. Amnesty does not apply to library materials that have been lost or those belonging to other libraries.
The food items will be donated to local food pantries: CAPTAIN http://www.captainyfs.org and Shenendehowa Helping Hands Food Pantry http://www.jonesvilleumc.org/foodpantry.htm
Previously opened or glass items will not be accepted. No items will be accepted through the book drop. Donations must take place in person during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
Food for Fines is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the problems of hunger and homelessness, in the local community and nationwide, according to information from the library.
