Tina Versaci was reappointed to Schenectady County Community College’s Board of Trustees by the Schenectady County Legislature in July and will serve her first full year as a board member.
The SCCC Board of Trustees is made up of 10 members, with four appointed by the governor, five by the county Legislature and one student trustee elected by fellow classmates. All trustees serve a seven-year term except for the student trustee, who serves for one year.
Right now it is a very exciting time in Schenectady and the college, I believe, is at the cornerstone of all the wonderful things that are happening, said Versaci. `Frankly, I wanted to be a part of it.`
Versaci was first appointed to the Board of Trustees in February 2010 by the Schenectady County Legislature to fill a vacancy created after the death of Trustee Alex LaRocco.
`It is always a little bittersweet,` Versaci said about filling a vacancy from a death. `I think the board had tremendous respect for Alex and it is always hard to fill those shows.`
Versaci has been a member of the Education Committee, which is a sub committee of the board of trustees at the college. Also, she is also a Board of Trustees representative on the SCCC Foundation Board of Directors.
Versaci was a partner at O’Connell and Aronowitz P.C. from 2004 to January 2010. While she was a partner, she worked on managing litigation matters in State and Federal Court including pleadings, depositions, motion practice, settlement negotiations, trials and post settlement/post verdict case resolution.
Versaci stopped working at the law firm in February so she could spend more time with her three children, ages, 8, 6 and 3.
`The timing for me couldn’t have been better,` said Versaci. `I love being able to throw myself into this.`
She resides in the City of Schenectady with her husband, Schenectady County Surrogate’s Court Judge Vincent Versaci, and their children. She said she enjoys living in Schenectady and thinks it is a good place to raise her children.
`[Schenectady] is much different from where I grew up and I love that it is a great community,` she said. `It is a city, but it has a community feel to it.“
