A trooper responded to a report of a car into a building at 1003 State Route 50 in the Town of Ballston on Sunday, Sept. 26. According to reports, the vehicle, a 1994, 4 door Lexus, had been traveling north on Route 50 at around 2:28 p.m., when it veered off the road, onto a lawn and parking area of a one story apartment building. The vehicle struck a second parked vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet pick up truck, and drove it into the south side of the building, causing major structural damage. The first vehicle continued on, striking the southeast corner of the building, also causing additional damage. Debris from the crash damaged the fender of a parked motorcycle nearby.
An investigation revealed that the driver of the first vehicle, Yvonne Zahir, 66, of Niskayuna, has extensive medical problems that can make her feel weak and pass out. Zahir believes that she fainted or blacked out and does not remember the crash. Zahir was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment and one of the building’s tenants was taken to Saratoga Hospital for evaluation.
