The Voorheesville girls cross country team turned in its second consecutive first-place finish at an invitational meet this year.
Three Blackbirds placed in the top five to help Voorheesville finish first in the Girls Varsity 2 (small school) division at last Saturday’s Queensbury Invitational.
Michelyn Little led Voorheesville with a second-place performance. The junior covered the 5-kilometer course in a time of 20:04.95. Schuylerville’s Samantha Watson won the individual title with a time of 19:05.65.
Senior Jolie Siegel was fourth for Voorheesville with a time of 21:01.22, and junior Sawyer Cresap placed fifth with a time of 21:15.41. Junior Karen Obertubbesing (22nd place, 23:46.86) and sophomore Carla Planz (23rd, 23:48.88) rounded out the Blackbirds’ top five.
Voorheesville finished with 50 points to claim the team title. Peru (Section VII) finished second with 79 points, and Maple Hill placed third with 88 points.
On the boys’ side, Voorheesville finished second to Schuylerville in the team standings, but it had the top individual runner in sophomore Joe Becker.
Becker pulled away from the rest of the lead pack to finish first with a time of 17:29.78. Ticonderoga’s Jay Berube was second with a time of 17:35.07.
Schuylerville took control of the meet by placing its first four runners between third and sixth place. The Black Horses finished with 38 points, while Voorheesville finished second with 50 points.
David Vandervoort (seventh place, 18:42.99) was the Blackbirds’ second runner. Quinn Treadgold (eighth, 18:44.06) and Evan Treadgold (14th, 19:22.69) also placed in the top 20 for Voorheesville. `
