Kathleen Skeals will replace Joseph Corr
Former North Colonie School District English Supervisor Kathleen Skeals was named the new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction on Monday, Sept. 13, replacing Joseph Corr who moved on to become the district’s Superintendent.
She has the requisite skill set, work ethic, knowledge and experience to move the district forward in the area of curriculum and instruction, said Corr in a press release. `I am confident that she will work hard and motivate our staff. She is enthusiastic and has the capacity to provide creative leadership.
Skeals in a consultant for the New York State Education Department as well as has a hand in the preparation of the New York State English Regents exams, according to a press release put out by the school district.
She was chosen after the district interviewed several candidates and held `Meet the Candidates Forums`, in which the district was able to receive feedback from the community on each of the candidates.
Skeals said she is committed to the `educational climate` that will help children reach and obtain their required standards.
`At its finest, teaching is engaging students in meaningful experiences, while providing them with the skills and strategies necessary to become independent, life-long learners,` she said in the press release. `Not only am I committed to developing a rich and rigorous curriculum that expands students’ opportunities and minds, but I am also committed to cultivating an environment which allows students to discover and celebrate their personal passions.`
Skeals will be appointed by the Board of Education on Sept. 20.
