A Town of Colonie man was arrested earlier today after State Police received reports he had made several death threats targeted towards his wife.
Robert Rothaupt, 65, had contacted the New York State Department of Tax and Finance with complaints towards the fact his income was being deducted to pay for child support he had neglected in the past, according to State Police.
During the conversation, Rothaupt threatened to kill his ex-wife if the issue wasn’t resolved to his liking. A state trooper was soon notified by the Tax Department and contacted Rothaupt in which he proceeded to continue to make death threats to his wife.
Rothaupt was arrested and charged with one count of making a terroristic, a class D felony, and Aggravated Harrassment, a class A misdemeanor, according to State Police. He was taken to Colonie Town Court where he was arraigned and taken to Albany County Jail on a $10,000 bail.
Police say an investigation into the matter is continuing where additional charges may be filed.
