It’s back on!
The Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society announced that as of 10 a.m. today the shelter has begun accepting cats and giving out cats for adoption as well rescheduled both Feline Fest and the Rabies Clinic for August 19-22.
After a breakout of Panleukopenia, also known as feline distemper, occurred at the shelter, they had stopped accepting and adopting cats as well as postponed its Feline Festival meant to take place.
According to a press release put out by the Society, their Medical Director Dr. Sarah Madaio kept in contact with the Cornell Veterinary School’s Shelter Medicine Program and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals veterinary outreach program during the process and cleaned and disinfected the shelter several times.
Feline Fest will see cats from ages of six months to three years will be available for adoption for the price of $35, regularly $75, and kittens six months or younger will be available for $50, regularly $100. Cats that are up for adoption have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper and come with a 30 day pet insurance, according to the release.
Cats over three will continue to be available for free.
The Society will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on August 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 20, Community Day adoptions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 21 and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on August 22 at their 3 Oakland Ave location in Menands.
