Police in Saratoga Springs identified Angel Juarez Garcia, 24, of Guatemala, as the suspect responsible for the stabbing that took place on the backstretch at the race course over the weekend, according to reports.
The Criminal Investigation Unit of the police department spent several days investigating a stabbing that took place on Saturday, July 24, between 10 and 11 p.m. in the backstretch dorms of the Oklahoma Training Track, according to reports. The victim received multiple stab wounds to the neck, arms and chest and was transported to Saratoga Hospital by a friend, where the victim was then released, according to police reports.
Police say the stabbing was the result of a verbal argument between backstretch workers who are not employees of NYRA.
Garcia was arrested and charged with a felony count of assault in the second degree on Monday, July 26, and remanded to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $100,000, according to reports.
Police are working to determine the residence of Garcia, which they say at this time, appears to be illegal.
