The St. Paddy’s Day hit-and-run driver in Saratoga Springs was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 15 years in state prison on Friday, June 25, according to Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy.
Travis Carroll, 23, was convicted of manslaughter in the second degree for having recklessly caused the death of Ryan Rossley, 26, on Henry Street in March.
Carroll pled guilty on April 25 to the manslaughter charge.
According to a previous Spotlight article, in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 18, police said there was an altercation between Carroll, Rossley and several other individuals near the intersection of Caroline and Henry Streets.
Carroll’s 2002 Black Nissan Maxima struck Rossley as Carroll came out of the parking lot located on Henry Street near the back entrance to the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Carroll left the scene and didn’t report the incident to place, returning home to remove a portion of his windshield in an attempt to hide the evidence of the hit and run.
Carroll admitted that he recklessly caused the death of Rossley by striking him with the motor vehicle he was operating, according to information from Murphy’s office.
Mrs. Rossley’s statement to the judge was heartbreaking. She described with raw emotion how her life has been forever changed by Travis Carroll’s reckless conduct, said Murphy in a statement. `Were it not for a custodian at the public library and a guy awakened by the noise outside who came forward, this case could have gone the wrong way.`
Carroll was immediately transferred to the Downstate Correctional Facility for processing by the Department of Corrections.
