Kristofer Rose, 32. of 7 Colonial Drive, Schenectady, was arrested by Albany police on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, on Sunday, May 23, on the corner of Broadway and Ferry Street in Albany at 5:48 p.m.
According to police reports, Rose had one plastic tie off of crack cocaine on the driver side floorboard of his 1999 Plymouth Neon. Police found upon a search powdered cocaine on Rose in the pocket of his pants. Both substances were field tested with a positive result, according to police.
Rose, who is an English Teacher at Draper Middle School in Rotterdam, has not been in the classroom since his arrest. Rose has been put on administrative leave until further notice and district officials do not anticipate his return to the classroom or allowed on campus for the rest of the school year. A certified substitute, has been hired to replace Rose in the classroom.
In a letter home to students, signed by Draper Middle School Principal Debra Male and Superintendent Kathleen Spring, the administrators said counselors are available for students and families to help deal with the situation and provide grievances.
