The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit in Wilton arrested Frank E. Mihalek, 49, of 223 Spier Falls Road, Greenfield Center, NY, on Friday, May 14, for Identity Theft in the First degree, Grand Larceny in the Third degree, Forgery in the Second degree and Falsifying Business Records in the First degree, all felonies, according to New York State Police.
State Police opened an investigation after receiving information alleging improprieties with some of the Wilton Elks Club financial dealings. The arrest follows a lengthy investigation by the State Police that included an extensive review of financial records, according to reports.
The charges allege that Mihalek, who has been the club’s financial secretary since 2004, opened credit card accounts in the name of the Elks Club and various past officials of the club and used the accounts for personal financial gain. In some cases the officials were unaware that accounts had remained open in their name, and in others the officials were unaware the account had been opened, according to reports. Mihalek is charged with stealing more than $3,000 in goods and services.
Mihalek posted $5,000 cash bail at his arraignment in the Town of Wilton Court, said reports, and was released pending a future court appearance.
