State police on April 28 arrested Joseph F. Strevell, 48, of Phillips Rd., Castleton, and charged him with criminal impersonation in the second degree, a misdemeanor, following a traffic stop in the Town of Colonie.
Police pulled Strevell over on April 1 on I-87 for speeding. He allegedly produced his driver’s license when asked for identification but also identified himself as deputy secretary of state and produced a New York State Department of State Executive Office Identification Card, police said. Further investigation revealed that Strevell was employed as Deputy for Secretary of State from November 26, 1997 until December 23, 1999 when he resigned.
Police allege Strevell produced the card in order to obtain a benefit.
Strevell was released on an appearance ticket directing him to appear in Town of Colonie Court on Wednesday, May 5.“
