George Amedore Senior, Presidnet of Amedore Homes, was presented the 2010 Good Scout Award by the Schenectady District Twin Rivers Boy Scouts of America at Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia, on Thursday, April 29.
The event highlights business and community members in the Capital District that have supported the Boy Scouts and their works. The event also marks the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts throughout the United States. Nicholas D’Ambrosio, Council President of the Schenectady District Twin Rivers Boy Scouts of America said they are thrilled for the event and the coming 100 years.
We’re thrilled to have this event, said D’Ambrosio. `The Boy Scouts have been in existence for 100 years helping youth to be their best. Schenectady, in particular, has a very long history of scouting and this is a celebration of the first 100 years and dedicating ourselves to the next 100 years.`
County Legislature and President of the Buhrmaster Energy Group, James Buhrmaster, R-Glenville, said the same principles that were taught by the Boy Scouts in the beginning are still taught to this day.
`This is one of the most exciting times for scouting,` said Buhrmaster, 2010 marks the 100 anniversary of the Boy Scouts of Americathe principles that the Boy Scouts were founded on are still taught today.`
Amedore was honored with the Good Scout Award for his work in the home construction business in the Capital Region, which includes the work on the show Extreme Home Makeover for a home in Colonie in 2007. Amedore was honored by the award and is happy to take part in the event, even though he said he was not a scout as a youth.
`I’m very honored to be able to participate in this great event,` said Amedore. `The scouts are a great organization and I’m happy to be here tonight and be honored with the scout award.`
During his acceptance speech, Amedore said the principles of self-reliance and preparedness should not be underestimated and empower our youth.
`The Boy Scouts empower through self-reliance everydaywe cannot underestimate that,` he said.

Over $37,000 were raised by the event, going towards funding five camps, 23 Cub Scout packs with 900 Cub Scouts, and 20 Boy Scout troops with 500 Scouts through the 13 counties that make up the Twin Rivers Council. The funding will also go towards Scoutreach- a program that helps to outreach to inner-city youths who want to be scouts, a part of the mission of the scouts according to D’Ambrosio.
`The Council’s mission is to allow every youth that wants to be a Scout to be able to be a Scout, and that’s what we hope to accomplish,` said D’Ambrosio.
