Scoring runs has been a problem for the Mohonasen baseball team.
Three days after losing a pitcher’s duel at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, the Mighty Warriors suffered a 10-0 Suburban Council setback against Ballston Spa Monday in Rotterdam.
Mohonasen was in the game until the fourth inning when Ballston Spa (1-5) scored four runs to open up a 5-0 advantage. The Scotties tacked on five runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
Brian Guilder homered and doubled for Ballston Spa, which had its own problems winning games before meeting winless Mohonasen Monday. Andrew Stawnicy and Chris Baldani each chipped in with a pair of hits for the Scotties, while the Mighty Warriors only managed two hits.
Mohonasen had an equally tough time accumulating hits in last Thursday’s 2-1 loss to BH-BL. Spartan starter Tom Seefeld allowed three hits and struck out eight batters to pick up the complete-game victory.
Both of BH-BL’s runs came in the bottom of the third inning off Mohonasen starter Joe Korszun. The Mighty Warriors got one run back in the top of the sixth, but Seefeld shut Mohonasen down in the seventh to finish off the victory.
Bret Dennis singled twice and stole two bases for BH-BL. Korszun and reliever Luke Flood combined on a five-hitter for Mohonasen.
The Mighty Warriors tried for their first win of the season Wednesday when they visited Saratoga Springs.
In other Suburban Council baseball action, Niskayuna couldn’t climb out of an early 4-0 deficit in a 5-3 loss to Colonie Monday.
The Silver Warriors (2-3 league, 3-3 overall) scored three runs in the top of the second inning to get back into the game, but Colonie starter Chris Kerney held them scoreless after that to pick up the victory.
Chris Kalica doubled twice for the Garnet Raiders (3-2, 6-3).
Niskayuna entered the game off a 7-5 victory over Averill Park last Friday. Jake Syed led the Silver Warriors with a home run and a single, while Nick Valletta contributed a double and two singles.
Niskayuna looked to get back to its winning ways Wednesday when it hosted Bethlehem.
Scotia-Glenville (0-3, 1-3) was still searching for its first Foothills Council win of the season Wednesday when it visited Queensbury.
The Tartans were coming off a 7-3 loss to the Spartans Monday in Scotia. The game wasn’t decided until Queensbury scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to create the winning four-run margin.
Charlie Peltz had five RBI for Queensbury. Ian Schoonmaker doubled, and Matt O’Byrne tripled for Scotia-Glenville.`
