Saratoga Springs police are investigating an early morning hit and run accident near the library. According to reports, at about 4:25 a.m., police responded to a hit and run on Henry Street and found a male victim with serious injuries. Police are investigating what they believe may have been an altercation that led up to the hit and run, but have not confirmed this connection.
The victim, identified as Ryan Rossley, 27, of Saratoga Springs was flown to Albany Medical Center for treatment. At 5:50 p.m. he was pronounced dead, succumbing to injuries sustained as a result of the collision, according to police reports.
Police reported on the afternoon of Friday, March 19, they had located the vehicle, a black Nissan Maxima, believed to have been involved in the hit and run and obtained a warrant to conduct a thorough examination of it. They could not comment on any damage or specific evidence recovered, as the investigation is ongoing. Saratoga Springs police worked along with members of the New York State Parole and New York State Police Investigators to track down the vehicle.
Police have also been in contact with the operator of the vehicle but said an investigation is still ongoing, they have not yet made an arrest and one is not imminent. They are still attempting to identify and locate a number of individuals who were involved in an altercation prior to the hit and run.
Police said they have received several beneficial leads from the public over the last 24 hours and continue to ask for the public’s help. They urge anyone in the area of Henry Street between Caroline and Phila Street at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, who may have seen any type of altercation or the hit and run itself, to call the department at 584-1800 or the anonymous crime tip line at 584-8477.
