The Colonie girls bowling team fended off a late charge by Section XI champion Middle Country to take first place at last weekend’s New York State High School Championships in Poughkeepsie.
Colonie knocked down 1,006 pins in the first game and 976 pins in the second game on its way to posting a six-game total of 5,564 pins, 47 pins ahead of Middle Country.
Stephanie Buckley took home high game honors at states with a total of 245 pins for Colonie, which won its first state title in five years.
The Colonie boys placed second to Section I’s North Rockland at states. Matt Olson had the high series with 1,421 pins for the Garnet Raiders, who knocked down 6,213 pins as a team.`
