Members of the Scotia-Glenville Administrators Association voted today to reduce their salary increases during the 2010-2011 school year and have accepted a less expensive insurance option, according to a release from the district.
We know the state of the economy is difficult in the country and in the state, said Lynda Castronovo, president of the SGAA and principal at Scotia-Glenville High School in the release from the district. `We knew that we needed to do something to give back to the community and to preserve programming for our students.`
With large cuts facing the district next year, the SGAA has agreed to reduce their salary increases, spreading the 4.25 percent salary increase under the current contract over two years, with a 2.25 percent increase in 2010-2011 and a 2 percent increase in 2011-2012. The concession on salaries will save the district $37,000, according to the release.
The SGAA also changed their insurance options, with MVP no longer an insurance option. Instead, CDPHP Exclusive Provider Organization will be offered. According to the release the change in insurance options in contingent on the other labor unions at Scotia-Glenville accepting the same provisions, which would lead to additional budget savings.
Superintendent of schools Susan Swartz has approached all the unions at Scotia-Glenville, seeking concessions, as she prepares the 2010-2011 budget.
`I am thrilled that the Scotia-Glenville Administrators Association has engaged with the school district to support the programs and services that we provide to children,` said Swartz in a release.
