The Voorheesville boys basketball team fell one game short of earning a share of the Colonial Council title.
Watervliet (12-2 league, 15-3 overall) outscored the Blackbirds 20-13 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 66-59 victory in last Friday’s regular season finale.
The Blackbirds (11-3, 14-4) had a strong defensive performance in the first quarter as they took a 12-9 lead on their hosts. However, the Cannoneers regrouped and averaged 19 points per quarter over the last three periods to earn the win and a share of the league title with Lansingburgh.
Nick Durocher scored 23 points, and Devonte Gleason added 14 points for Watervliet. Ethan Mackey led Voorheesville with 22 points, while Nicholas Crawford contributed 18 points.
In another Colonial Council game last Friday, Schalmont jumped out to a 22-15 lead in the first quarter on its way to a 69-58 victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.
Anthony Metzold netted 21 points, while Brendan Munafo and Nick Reali each added 17 points for the Sabres (6-8, 7-11), who won four of their last six games.
Jordan Skipper had 18 points, and Antony Monescalchi chipped in 14 points for the Indians (1-13, 1-17).
In the Suburban Council, Bethlehem ended its regular season on a high note by beating Guilderland 66-57 last Thursday in Delmar.
The Eagles (6-10, 6-12) saw an early 13-9 lead slip away when the Dutchmen (6-9, 7-10) put together a 21-point second quarter to grab a 30-25 halftime advantage.
Bethlehem regained the momentum in the third quarter, as it outscored Guilderland 21-6 to gain a 46-36 lead. The Dutchmen attemped to get back in the game in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles held on for the nine-point victory.
Scott Clas and Ryan Stempsey each scored 20 points, and John Morrill added 12 points for Bethlehem, which swept its two-game season series with Guilderland.
Ryan Ochs’ 16 points paced the Dutchmen, who had won five of their previous six games leading to last Thursday’s game. Anthony Gallo contributed 14 points.`
