A string of car larcenies that began Thursday, Jan. 9 has continued, and spread, according to local law officials.
A total of 16 vehicles at a number of fitness centers, commerce and restaurant parking lots have been broken into with missing purses and wallets. In many incidents cash was removed and the wallet or purse was left behind.
On Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24 there were incidents at Afrim’s Sports on Albany Shaker Road and at Tri-City Fitness, on Loudon Road, which was the location of a Wednesday, Jan. 13 incident.
Guilderland police have also had reports of similar instances at the YMCA behind the Guilderland Town Library on Western Avenue and Gold’s Gym in the Twenty Mall and a joint investigation is under way.
Colonie police speculate that the perpetrators are acting quickly, as they are not taking time to break into the trunk.
It has to make noise, said Lt. Robert Winn of the Colonie Police Department.
Police said no arrests have been made, but there are some leads they are following up on.
Colonie police can be contacted at 783-2744.
