Some Saratoga Springs children had an unexpectedly eventful ride home from school on Monday, Jan. 4. At around 3:20 p.m. that afternoon, Saratoga Springs police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus and a tractor trailer, said Lt. Gregory Veitch. When they arrived on the scene, police reported that a large tractor trailer had swiped the side of a Saratoga Springs City School District bus while it was sitting at a red light at the intersection of New Street and Ballston Avenue.
Four elementary school age children, one aide and a bus driver were the occupants of the bus and were evaluated by responding Fire and EMS personnel as a precautionary measure, said Veitch. The truck driver was also evaluated. No injuries were reported and damage to both vehicles was minor. New Street was closed for about 20 minutes while police investigated the accident and Veitch said no charges are expected to be issued.
