Fire officials suspect that the bus that caught fire in front of Crossgates Mall on Monday, Nov. 30, originated in the engine.
Westmere Fire Department chief William Swartz said there was no evidence of foul play and investigators narrowed the origin of the fire to the engine. They were unable to determine a specific cause, but the Capital District
Transportation Authority could continue the investigation if it sees fit, he said.
Officer John Cordi, who responded to the scene, said the driver evacuated the bus near Dicks Sporting Good after he saw smoke coming from the engine. He said there were five or six people passengers at the time.
Within a few minutes it was fully engulfed, Cordi said.
Cordi said firefighters put the flame out but the bus was destroyed.
