The Colonie Police Department arrested a woman for allegedly using several different aliases and lies to gain access to churches and commit grand larceny.
According to police, Consuelo T. Leonard, 32, of Wallkill, was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 3, after an incident that occurred on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, at 510 Albany Shaker Road, in which
police said she had entered the church and stole a personal church and stole a personal check with she later cashed in Rennselaer County.
Police said Leonard was known to present herself to local churches as being in need of shelter, money, food and medical treatment and after gaining the church’s trust, she would accept the church s assistance and use access to the church to commit larcenies.
Police also said that it is believed that many of her crimes have gone unreported and that the victims could not have even realized that they were victims.
Some of the aliases she has used include Consuelo Monroe, Tawanna Monroe, Tawanna Leonard, Denise Monroe, Denise Leonard, Nicole Monroe and Nicole Leonard. Police also said she is known to travel with her black male
boyfriend, but that no charges have been brought against him.
