The Colonie football team scored the first and last touch-downs of its game against Saratoga Springs last Friday.
Unfortunately for the Garnet Raiders, the Blue Streaks scored 31 points in between to pull away for a 31-13 victory.
Matt Hamilton capped Colonie’s first scoring drive with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Garnet Raiders (1-1) maintained that lead until late in the second quarter when Saratoga’s Tyler Bates scored on an 11-yard run to put the Blue Streaks (1-1) ahead 7-6. A Nick Daley 36-yard field goal as time expired in the first half extended the lead to 10-6.
Bates and Tony DeLoatch each added 6-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter to help Saratoga pull away. Ford Plowman scored on a 19-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the Blue Streaks ahead 31-6 before Pat Schroeder caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Chris Kalica late in the game for Colonie.
In other Class AA football action last weekend, Shaker defeated Albany 7-0 in a defensive battle Saturday, while Christian Brothers Academy fell to LaSalle 34-7 in their annual rivalry game last Friday in Troy.
Jaquell Chandler’s 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter proved to be the only points Shaker (1-1) needed to defeat Albany. The Blue Bison defense came up with several big plays to maintain their lead.
Tailback Anthony Pascarella rushed for 40 yards, and quarter-back Michael Parzych threw for 40 yards for Shaker.
CBA (0-2) battled LaSalle hard through the first half before the Cadets (2-0) pulled away by scoring 20 points in the second half.
