After a two-hour public hearing Thursday, June 11, the Colonie Town Board decided to table a resolution that would strengthen the town’s noise ordinance until a further examination by town officials could be completed.
The subject will now come to another public hearing on Thursday, July 16, at which point the board will have to vote on the measure.
The resolution that was put on Thursday’s agenda and discussed during the public hearing involved lowering the night decibel level allowance, which currently stands at 75, and imposing a daytime decibel limit which would apply to those playing music outside while washing their cars or holding outdoor concerts during the day.
A handful of residents spoke in favor of strengthening the noise ordinance, saying their quality of life was at stake, and, while everyone including town officials agreed that something must be done about the noise problems, one major problem discussed was how to enforce the new laws.
