Colonie’s Kyle Plante won her first state title at last Saturday’s New York Indoor Track and Field Champion-ships in Ithaca.
The freshman sprinter pulled away from the pack in the finals to claim the 300-meter dash title in a time of 38.53 seconds. Chamique Francis of Benjamin Cardozo (New York City) was second in a time of 39.44 seconds.
Plante was also part of Colonie’s 1,600-meter relay team, which placed sixth at states in a time of 4:05.66. Emily Finnegan, Nayamka Roberts-Smith and Corrine Serrano joined Plante on the relay team.
On the boys’ side, Colonie’s Tyler Stewart finished second in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:29.74. Fayetteville-Manlius’ Alex Hatz won the race with a time of 2:27.86.
Stewart’s teammate, Brian Treadway, was part of Sec-tion II’s distance medley relay team, which placed fourth in the intersectional event with a time of 9:14.38.
Shaker had two boys relay teams place in the top six at states. The 1,600 relay team of Oluebebe Abara, Matt Conti, Brendan Dolan and Matt Dustin finished fifth with a time of 3:30.01, while the 800 relay team of Jaquell Chandler, Reuben Feinman, Bryan Letourneau and Alvin Porter placed sixth in a time of 1:34.51.`
