The Bethlehem Lady Eagles basketball team will attempt to take the first step back to the Class AA finals against Queensbury tonight.
The Lady Eagles have a size advantage over the Spartans whose tallest player is listed at 5’11 (Erin McLaughlin). With players such as Alex McCullough, Rosie McKee, Julie Landrigan and Jaci Oskam either as tall or taller then McLaughlin, the Eagles will likely have the edge in rebounds and points in the paint.
The Eagles also have an advantage from three-point range, with three shooters hitting 13 or more shots from long range. Caitlin Dole adds another eight threes to the team and presents a threat at all times.
If Queensbury is going to have a chance, then it must get a big night from its two leading scorers, McLaughlin and Alexis Perryman.
Another team looking to make a run at a championship is the Voorheesville Blackbirds. The Blackbirds earned a No. 2 seed in Class CC and a bye by going 15 5 overall and 14-4 in the Colonial Council. The Blackbirds did it by spreading out the scoring with six girls scoring more than 100 points this season.
Voorheesville is waiting to find out who its first Sectional opponent will be ` either Albany Academy or Cambridge.
Voorheesville plays on Saturday, Feb. 28.
