The Bethlehem boys basketball team ended its regular season with a 61-54 Suburban Council victory over Averill Park Tuesday.
Kevin Wendth scored 21 points to lead the Eagles on Senior Night.
If we can get a win on Senior Night, it’s a big deal, said Bethlehem coach A.G. Irons.
Averill Park went into the locker room at halftime with a 28-27 lead after a foul- and turnover-laden first half, but Bethlehem asserted itself in the third quarter. The Eagles gained the lead early on and built a five-point advantage entering the fourth quarter.
`We were preserving what we have done at home this year,` said Irons. `We have had a pretty good record at home.`
The victory gives Bethlehem momentum heading into its opening round game against Christian Brothers Academy Wednesday in Colonie.
`It put us to .500 in the league, which is an accomplishment,` said Irons. `We really don’t want to be off for eight days on a loss.`
