The Scotia-Glenville indoor track and field team had little trouble handling the competition at last Friday’s Section II, Division III championships at the University at Albany.
The boys team cruised to a first-place finish with 145.33 points, 79 points ahead of runner-up Lansingburgh, while the girls team defeated Lansingburgh 119.33-77.33 for the Division III title.
Tim Holzhauer led Scotia-Glenville with individual victories in the 55- and 300-meter dashes. The senior won the 55 dash in a time of 6.5 seconds and finished first in his heat of the 300 dash with a time of 37.5 seconds.
Matt Roberts contributed a victory in the 600 with a time of 1:29.0, and Kyle Palombo added a win in the triple jump with a distance of 44 feet, 5.25 inches for the Tartans. Scotia-Glenville’s 800 relay team of Nate Crow, Subhash Modasra, Chris Boulant and Eric Bode also took first place with a time of 1:42.6.
Amanda Schermerhorn was a double winner for Scotia-Glenville on the girls’ side. Schermerhorn won the 1,500 in a time of 5:07.8 and finished first in the 3,000 with a time of 11:24.1.
Makala Gatta also won two individual events for the Tartans. The junior claimed the long jump title with a distance of 16 feet, 2.5 inches and took first place in the 300 dash with a time of 43.9 seconds.
Joya Clark and Becky Celorio had individual victories. Clark edged Lansingburgh’s Julia Retell for first place in the 600 with a time of 1:44.0, while Celorio claimed the 1,000 title with a time of 3:17.3.
Niskayuna placed fourth in the boys and girls team standings at last Saturday’s Division II championship at UAlbany. The boys finished with 60 points, while the girls netted 50 points.
Louis Serafini led the Niskayuna boys team with victories in the 1,000 and 1,600. Serafini edged Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Otis Ubriaco by four-tenths of a second to win the 1,000 in a time of 2:42.4, and he had a 1.1-second margin of victory over Ubriaco in the 1,600. Serafini finished with a time of 4:27.4.
Caitlyn Mills helped provide 20 of the Niskayuna girls team’s 50 points. Mills won the 300 dash in a time of 42.5 seconds, and she ran the anchor leg of the Silver Warriors’ 800 relay team, which won its event with a time of 1:50. Sonya Pevzner, Victoria Engvold and Joanna Clark joined Mills on the winning relay.
Mohonasen placed seventh in the girls team standings with 16 points.`
