The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy is hosting a series of educational programs throughout the Capital region on a variety of environmental issues related to land protection. All the programs are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, February 10th 6:45-9:00 p.m.: Floods or Flowers: How to Manage Stormwater AND Create a Beautiful Garden. Presenters are Nancy Heinzen, Stormwater Program Coordinator at the Stormwater Coalition of Albany County, and Susan Pezzolla, Master Gardener Coordinator at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County. They will discuss how storm water affects the quality of our streams and lakes and the quantity of unseen groundwater supplies and how to use stormwater runoff to create water gardens in our own backyards. The program will be held at the MHLC Offices, 1499 New Scotland Road, Slingerlands.
Thursday, March 26th 6:46-9:00 p.m.: `Avians and Aliens: What’s Being Done to Control Bird Habitat and Invasive Species`. Habitat loss and invasive species threaten native species of plants and animals. This program will be held at the Glenville Senior Center, 32 Worden Road, Glenville. (Worden Road is off Rte 50 across from the Schenectady County Airport).
A third program on agriculture will be held later in the spring. `Through this educational series we hope to increase awareness of the consequences of development on our local environment,` said Jill Knapp, Executive Director of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, `We also plan to discuss actions individuals can take to reduce some of these environmental impacts.`
