Advanced Micro Devices filed a site plan for its $4.6 billion microchip manufacturing facility with the Town of Malta’s Planning Department today, bringing the project one step closer to a groundbreaking.
The plans call for an 883,000-square-foot facility on 222 acres of land in the Luther Forest Technology Campus. The property is split between the towns of Malta and Stillwater.
The factory will actually be built and operated by the Foundry Company, a spinoff that must be approved by AMD shareholders. A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Austin, Texas. Federal and state bodies have already approved the transition, which involves investments by Arab companies.
A groundbreaking in the spring is hoped for, with the factory up and running in 2012. It is expected to employ 1,465.
